Deforestation is an important phenomenon that may create major imbalances in the ecosystems. These imbalances may cause difficulties in the development or redevelopment of forest areas and
have a negative effect on the environment and the socio-economic
components of the regions. Identifying and investigating the causes
which determine the expansion of the deforested areas is important for both researchers and government decision makers, due to
the complex relationships established between the forest and other
components of the territorial systems [3,15,19–22,26,29].
