ASEAN countries that provide protection require a person’s consent before their personal data can be used. There is an implied constitutional right to privacy in Thailand. In Indonesia, the use of any information throughelectronic media involving personal data must be made with the consent of the person concerned. Electronic systems must protect any personal data that they hold. Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore have the most comprehensive regimes in place to protect the privacy of consumers. Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar have no regime for protecting consumer privacy.
