In thisstudy,mediumdensityfiberboardpanelswereproducedbyaddingdifferentratiosofsome
amine compoundstoureaformaldehyderesin,whichhad1:1.17molratios.Theformaldehyde
contents,physical,andmechanicalpropertiesofmediumdensityfiberboardpanelsweredetermined
accordingtoENstandardmethods.
In thisstudy,itwasdeterminedthattheformaldehydeemissionemittedfrommediumdensity
fiberboardpanelsdecreasedbyaddingurea,propylamine,methylamine,ethylamine,andcyclopenty-
lamine solution.Itwasfoundthatthewaterabsorptionandthicknessswellingvaluesincreased
slightly;however,theinternalbondstrength,modulusofrupture,andmodulusofelasticityofmedium
densityfiberboardpanelsalsoincreasedsubstantially,butthesepropertiesofmediumdensity
fiberboardpanelsdecreasedbyaddinghigherratiosofureasolution.Itwasfoundthatthe
formaldehydeemissionofmediumdensityfiberboardpanelsdecreased16.5%byusinga16%rateof
urea formaldehyderesinand0.8%rateofureaandethylaminesolution.Thesedecreaseswere
determinedas57%forcyclopentylaminesolutionaddition,41%forpropylaminesolutionaddition,
and 48%formethylaminesolutionaddition.
