Gerini(1909: p. 186) noted that according to Claudius Ptolemy's Geographical Record, there was, on Chryse, a port called Takola. Gerini esround tablished an hypothesis to examine whether or not the modern name of Takuapa was derived from the word Takola. Many scholars followed his idea and added that this same port might well have been Kalah as mentioned in Arabic inscriptions in the 9th Century because many surface finds which indicate Arabian origins were found in the Koh Ko Kao area of Phangna Province on the Andaman coast. If that is the case this same port at Takola or Kalah would and have been receiving ships for more than 800 years and a thick cultural layer or successive cultural layers were expected with the earliest containing evidence from at least the l' Century A.D
