Activity Process Observation Results
Closer monitoring of critical activities, as a part of the CPIO responsibility has
brought important insights into the productivity planning and controlling process
making management decision making process more effective and meaningful. The
process is recommended to be used on selected critical activities and observations are
made at random intervals throughout the day for a pre-determined period. The critical
observations are reported to all relevant parties; meetings will be arranged depending
on the severity of the observation. Further actions can be taken depending on the
severity of observations, considering the frequency of critical observations, and based
on the relative importance of the activity. Following are the possible outputs of the
process;
a) Productivity related issues: A collection of observations on each activity over a
project period makes a resourceful set of important productivity issues and their root
causes, to form a repository of potential productivity inhibitors to be used in future
projects.
b) Trend of observations during an activity: Continuous observations over few weeks
period usually make a set of rich information on the behaviour of performances and
indication of the potential root causes for the poor performances.
c) Critical impact factors analysis: Each of the observations is generally stamped with
the estimated impact on productivity and the estimated value of the impact of task or
process on the overall activity so that the CPIO could get a reasonable estimate of the
overall impact of the observation.
