Box 14.7
Different type of matrix
1. Checklist matrix Uses data which can be combined into an index or scale.
2. Time-ordered matrix Columns are arranged in time sequence. A specific version of this is known as an event listing, where concrete events, sorted into categories, are arranged into time sequence.
3. Role-ordered matrix Rows represent data from sets of individuals occupying different roles (e.g. doctor/nurse/administrator/patient).
4. Conceptually clustered matrix Columns are arranged to bring together items ‘belonging together’ (e.g. relating to same theme).
5. Effects matrix Displays data on outcomes (i.e. on dependent variable(s)).
6. Case dynamics matrix Columns concern issues, what happens in connection with them (e.g. who does what), and outcomes.
Note: There are also several variants, including hybrids.
