I'm not after postcards :) but what I am asking is if you are 'on holiday' in your business?
Are you in that relaxed place just seeing what comes along, not doing anything too energetic i.e. are you in 'holiday mode' with your business?
There is nothing wrong with taking it easy (I am not saying don't relax!) but what I suggest is that like any good holiday you put some planning time in beforehand to pick the best time, place, location to get the MOST from it... I know I relax more when I'm where I want to be!
Now I am a little over zealous when it comes to booking holidays (OK I am bordering on fanatical) but even if you're not quite as meticulous as me when it comes to your holiday research I am sure you'll agree that just randomly opening a brochure, or booking the first hotel you find online is not necessarily going to be the best holiday for you. If you want to get the best out of your holiday (whether its adventure or just pure relaxation you're after) then a little planning can make a HUGE difference. Not knowing when monsoon season is can be important part of planning for trips to some parts of the world for example, or checking different airline timetables to find flights that don't leave in the middle of the night can make or break the 'fun' of your trip.
Think about how you're running your business right now and see where there might be some gaps in your planning. What are your goals right now?
what is your next big launch? and do you have a campaign plan for it?
when did you last update your website and add new testimonials, or your latest products, or checked your search engine terms so you're getting found for what you do?
Have you reviewed your revenue goals recently?
What do your customers want right now? When did you last survey them?
Do you know what your ONE most important action is to take each day? And why?
I am not saying you have to run around and do all these actions right now (and there are plenty more I could add to this list and I am sure you can think of lots too) but if you're not doing any of them and just taking each day as it comes then you might be 'on holiday' in your business.
Being on holiday is fine if your plan is to carry on doing the same and getting the same results in your business. If you're looking to grow your business, or move it forward though, I'd suggest some planning so you can relax and enjoy your business and know you're getting the best experience from it and taking it where you want to go. I call this planning for your 'dream destination'.
Think of it this way - would you just turn up at the airport with your suitcase and see what was the next flight you could get on? It might not be heading where you want to go!
Instead take some time out every day or every week to plan your dream trip and perfect destination for your business then you can enjoy the journey and know you will love the destination when you get there.
Your business should be as fun and as exciting as an holiday. But don't leave the destination to chance!
