THE ROLE OF THE NP
Pulmonary hypertension is a chronic condition that requires an interdisciplinary team approach to continually monitor disease progression and manage care. The NP has a diagnostic and clinical management role in the care of the Pulmonary hypertension patient and must work collaboratively with the pulmonologist, cardiologist, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, nutritionist, and other practitioners who offer complementary therapies (eg, acupuncture, massage, and Reiki) to effectively meet the needs of this population. NPs provide follow- up and day-to-day care. Education is vital in order for the patient to return home and become functioning in society once again.
