Pakikisama can be defined as the desire to be accepted by the group, or the ability to get along. On the positive side, it is a sense of belonging, and is the source of a feeling of “togetherness” in good times and bad, providing material and emotional support. Pakikisama also motivates staff to work harder for the common good of the group and provide a very strong support system apart from the family. The downside is that this loyalty prevails in decisions on the right or sensible course to take. The group will not blow the whistle if one of its members breaks the rules. One or more may aid others in wrongdoing. At best, the rest will remain silent.
