Analog television systems are, by nature, limited to a narrow band of performance
that offers few choices. The adoption of a digital system generates significant gains in
performance, quality, and a wide range of services. Digital television distributes programs
using the same 6 MHz band. In terms of performance, the capacity to provide high-
definition images with high-quality sound is essential for the future of broadcasting, once
consumers have been offered such improvements along with other forms of delivery.
