Machining of En24 steel hardened to 45 HRC was carried out on a lathe to evaluate tool life and cutting forces under the influence of conventional flood coolant and cryogenic coolant. Tests were carried out at cutting speed of 125, 160 and 200 m/min and the feed rate, depth of cut were kept constant at 0.1 mm/rev and 1 mm respectively. Coated carbide CNMG 120404 Insert was used as a cutting tool. The results have revealed that cryogenic machining has yielded better tool life as compared to conventional flood machining.
