Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a major worldwide health problem that causes mortality and morbidity . It is characterized by hyperglycemia and listed as one of the chronic diseases in human .Prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus is increasing due to an increase in the global population , longer life expectancy , lack of exercise , overweight , or obesity . The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Thailand in people over 35 year of age of age was 9.6 persent in 2003 and half of all these were newly diagnosed patients . The fourth National Health Examination survey conducted between 2008 and 2009 reported that the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Thailand in people over 15 years old was 6.9% (7.7% in women and 6% in men)(Supawan Buranapin ,2014:582)
