Two distinct varieties based on the flower colour are there
in C. roseus, viz., the pink flowered rosea and the white
flowered alba [11]. C. roseus plant got commercial importance
due to the presence of medicinally important alkaloids and also
by its ornamental value [8]. Despite the relative great number of
reports on the medicinal aspects of C. roseus plants [7,12–14],
there are only a few attempts were made to explain the
physiological basis of growth regulator effects [7]. The purpose
of this study is to explore the changes that occurring in terms of
photosynthetic responses, anatomical characteristics and root
alkaloid ajmalicine production in this commercially important
