Various studies had shown the
staggering losses and wastage of resources from corruption in the country. There are studies showing that 20 per cent of the
national budget is pocketed by corrupt
government officials and their allies and that
more than 3 per cent of GNP is wasted in
graft and corruption (USAID; Worldbank;
Batalla, 2000). To a large extent, the
country’s underdevelopment could be
traced torampant corruption.
