Tourists go to Ecuador to go whale or bird watching, to visit the Amazon rain forest, or to go to the Galapagos Islands, one of the world's most famous nature paradises. But not many tourists go to the village of Piquiucho in the Chota Valley. It is near the Coiombian border, about a three-hour drive north of the capital,Quito. Life for people in this village is hard, and many of them have simple huts for houses. But there's something very special about Piquiucho: Half of the soccer players who played for Ecuador in the World Cup in 2002 and 2006 (a total of 11 players) came from this poor village.
