The STEBI-B has been used for more than a decade in a variety
of educational programs ranging from preservice elementary
teachers to in-service secondary science teachers.36−39 The
STEBI-B consists of 23 items and is comprised of two scales,
the Personal Science Teaching Efficacy (PSTE), which is
focused on how a teacher perceives their own teaching efficacy,
and the Science Teaching Outcome Expectancy (STOE),
which is concerned with how the teacher will affect student
outcomes. The results from both components combined have
been shown to be effective and widely used in many studies to
predict teaching practices,40−43 both self-efficacy and outcome
expectancy. In-service PD programs tend to impact the PSTE
more than the STOE because the STOE tends to measure factors that are usually beyond a teacher’s control such as a
student’s socioeconomic status and parental involvement.
