In analysis of worldwide data for the global burden
of HTN, 21 per cent of Indian men and women were
found to suffer from HTN6. Information on prevalence
of hypertension is available for urban and rural
population for many states in India, but the same is
not available among tribals. Therefore, the present
study was undertaken to assess the prevalence of
hypertension, and knowledge, treatment practice and
risk behaviours of tribal men and women ≥20 yr in nine
major states in India during 2008-2009 by National
Nutrition Monitoring Bureau (NNMB)7.
