4.4. Strain characterization
For this distinction, the API 50 CHB system was used, which
according to Martínez (2008) is one of the methods most
commonly used for identification at species level. Nigatu, Ahrné,
and Molin (2000) demonstrated that the use of API 50 CH profiles
for taxonomic purpose in most lactobacilli appears reproducible,
but that the specific temperature for the species could affect
the reproduction. The biochemical identification system API 50 CHB
allows identification of the selected strains, although it is advisable
to accompany it with confirmatory evidence.
