Hmmm. I think many of my students confuse the English word “culture” with what we would call things in or aspects of a culture. One common meaning in English is shared beliefs, values, attitudes, as well as behaviors, both good and bad, of a specific group, so culture is made up of many things. I think there may be a similar confusion among my students with the word “alphabet.” In English, an alphabet is always a collection of letters, but many Thai students say English has 26 alphabets. It has one alphabet with 26 letters. Are the words for alphabet and letter the same in Thai?
