5.4. Limitations and recommendations for further research
This paper was intended to be a baseline investigation and to provide a snapshot of prevailing practice and belief in the Abu Dhabi teaching cohort. The sample size of teachers from public schools used was lower than desired, which limited the analytical strength of this study. The results presented here warrant further exploration in larger studies. One potential barrier for participant recruitment in this study may have been language. Despite using bi-lingual research assistants, there may have still been some language issues that prevented Arabic speaking participants from either participating or fully comprehending the questions on the written questionnaires. Information sheets and surveys were provided in Arabic and in English. The findings of this study rely on self-reports of teachers and principals. Further examination of the teaching strategies and practice employed within Abu Dhabi’s primary schools should incorporate methods such as classroom observations to ‘ground truth’ practice against perception.
