Black & Decker was also the world leader in the $6 billion market for such acces¬sories as drill bits, saw blades, and screwdriver bits. Vermont American, Irwin Han¬son/American Tool, Bosch, Freud, and Wolfcraft were B&D's closest competitors in the accessories market, but no other toolmaker had as broad a product line or geo¬graphic coverage as Black & Decker. Most of the company's growth in accessory sales was accounted for by accessory lines developed for DeWalt power tools and a line of new premium woodworking saw blades. The company intended to maintain its market leadership by expanding into more woodworking supply and industrial/construction distribution channels and continuing to introduce innovative products.
