the correlational study, people who reported suffering fromsocial exclusion recalled novel networks as significantly moredense than they were. However, these misperceptions were limitedto reporting the structures of social networks, with no effect forexclusion on geographical network recall. The social experienceof exclusion undermines perceptions of social interactions, mak-ing this finding domain specific rather than a general problem ofinaccuracy. In a second study, we manipulated the exclusion experienceand then had people discern the network structure from theirobservations of social interactions.
