Dear IT Team member,
We are testing SSL traffic inspection on perimeter firewalls. We need your help to ensure that the traffic inspection policy is sound. The pilot applies to HGST managed computers operated by IT team members.
Why are we doing it?
SSL traffic constitutes nearly 70% of our web traffic. Without enabling SSL traffic inspection firewalls are unable to detect and stop malware and browser exploits delivered by infected web sites. Degraded network resistance to modern threats results in productivity loss due to outages attributed to malware.
Testing the traffic inspection within our team ensures that the service configuration is sound and firewalls have capacity for protecting the whole company.
What will be the change?
Starting today HGST perimeter firewalls will decrypt SSL sessions coming from Internet, inspect payload for malware and exploits and encrypt again before sending to your browser. Firewalls will use HGST issued digital certificate for encrypting traffic. Your browser was configured by Active Directory policies to trust traffic protected using the HGST certificate.
Will my web browsing be affected?
Your browsing experience should remain unchanged. All details of your communications remain private – the firewalls do not store any traffic and inspect it for malware signatures only. Traffic from trusted sources like financial institutions, government, telecom providers and major software vendors will not be intercepted at all.
How can I help?
Please continue with your regular Internet activities using one of web browsers popular in HGST: IE, Fire Fox or Chrome. All web sites are expected to work as usual. If an unlikely event that you experience connectivity issues to a particular web site please take a screenshot and let us know the details.
A security warning about “HGST Web Content Inspector” certificate indicates that the computer has connectivity issues with domain controllers. Try using a different browser and reach out to us or desktop support for help please.
