The carbohydrates present in substrateacid hydrolysates were determined by high performance liquidchromatography (HPLC). Analyses were performed at 65◦C in anAgilent Hi-Plex H column with a suitable guard column. Elution wascarried out with 5 mmol L−1H2SO4at a flow rate of 0.6 mL min−1.Quantification was performed by external calibration of the com-ponent sugars (cellobiose, glucose, xylose, and arabinose), aceticacid and dehydration by-products (furfural and hydroxymethyl-furfural).
