2.2. Basic parameters for comparison
To compare all scenarios utilizing different technologies, some
assumptions were made relating to the situation of this island.
These basic parameters are summarized in Table 2 and described
as follows.
The daily electricity consumption was estimated as 250 kW h
with a peak load at 50 kW, allowing some margin for future
to meet the energy requirement of about 100 residents living
on the island;
To guarantee energy security in case of consecutive number of
days without renewable energy supply, 5 days of autonomy
was ensured in this study so that the system power supply
availability is larger than 95% [42];
The peak sun-hours per day represent the equivalent number of
hours per day when solar irradiance intensity averages at 1 kW/
m2. Before this study, an overall evaluation of the solar energy
resource on this island has been carried out, and the daily peak
sun time was determined at 4.03 h
