When,however, the patient’s injuries are significant and intensive care treatment is indicated,continuous utero-fetal monitoring is implemented and incorporated into the trauma routine.
In such cases, the obstetrical team will be used in a consultative fashion unless the institution keeps these patients on the obstetrical intensive care units. This evaluation includes the assessment of fetal- placental well-being, maternal cardiovascular status, and the presence of uterine activity ruling out preterm labor.
