For untreated samples (Sample 1) and dried samples (Sample
2), the respective sugar yield was found to be 24.69 mg sugar/g
dry matter and 111.4 mg sugar/g dry matter. High moisture content
in untreated samples might be the dominant factor contributing
to large difference in these results. The high yield from dry
samples is mainly credited to high level of diffusivity of dried
material and reduction of water content which had hindered further
dilution of acid as it penetrates through the samples. In study
of enzymatic hydrolysis of switchgrass, sugar production was
decreasing when moisture content increases (Karunanithy and
Muthukumarappan, 2010).
