They pose three distinct elements of commitment that need to be distinguished. First,
the commitment target refers to the foci or object to which one is committed. An individual can be simultaneously committed to a wide variety of different targets but the commitment construct
is essentially the same regardless of the target. In addition, we assert that different workplace
targets are not facets or dimensions that underlie a global commitment construct in a
hierarchical structure (e.g., Bagozzi & Edwards, 1998)
