Tourism Australia’s Role In Aviation
Aviation is a strategic priority for Tourism Australia in achieving Tourism 2020. Australia’s international aviation capacity needs to grow by 40–50 per cent to reach the Tourism 2020 goal.
Tourism Australia plays a targeted strategic role in the aviation arena, using partnerships to help build demand and grow competitive and sustainable aviation capacity. It works with airlines, airports and State Tourism Organisations (STOs) to identify aviation gaps and opportunities. Market and customer knowledge is used to add value to the work already being done by the STOs, regions and airports.
Specifically, Tourism Australia facilitates aviation development by:
Building stronger relationships with global carriers through marketing and distribution
Developing strategies to build aviation capacity on key strategic routes to ensure we have the right capacity for the right markets to deliver the Tourism 2020 goals
Partnering with STOs and airports
Supporting government on the Tourism Access Working Group and Air Services Agreement bilateral negotiations
Attending key aviation events (World Routes and Routes Asia) to raise Australia’s profile among senior route development executives
Providing analyses and insights on aviation issues and opportunities to Australia’s tourism industry
Tourism Australia recognises that other government agencies lead aviation access, immigration policy and investment. Tourism Australia therefore works collaboratively with all of these agencies.
