In an attempt to minimize exposure to allogeneic blood, the option of presurgical autogeneic
deposit and/or perioperative autogeneic transfusion may be considered. Selection of one or
more of these options for an individual patient should consider the health of the patient, the
feasibility of collection, and the ability to predict the patient’s transfusion needs. Under limited circumstances, autogeneic platelet, plasma, and cryoprecipitate donations may be
arranged with selected blood centers on a case-by-case basis.
