PreVENT aims to systematically analyze
determinants of overweight in German
children and adolescents as a basis
of a scientifically sound portfolio of
preventive measures. Data from 4
population-based studies conducted
between 1996 and 2008 in Germany
were pooled. In total, we included 34
240 children and adolescents aged
3 to 18 years. The German Health Interview
and Examination Survey for
Children and Adolescents (KiGGS) is
a nationwide representative survey on
14 747 children and adolescents aged
3 to 17 years. Data of 11 143 4- to 17-
year-old children and adolescents were
from the Kiel Obesity Prevention Study
(KOPS, Kiel, North Germany). The Children’s
Health Interventional Trial (CHILT,
Cologne, West Germany) provided data
