The aim of this paper was to explore how direct care giving
nurses within Scotland view senior managers within the
NHS. More specifically, it addresses the question: How do
front-line nurses perceive senior managers who are not
nurses and is this a source of conflict? This article draws
upon data from a single case study comprising 31 qualitative
interviews. Fieldwork was carried out over three
months in the summer of 2010, within a large inner city
Scottish hospital.
