In Table 4 short fibre and dust are defined as the amount of
fibres shorter than 1.45 and 0.45mmrespectively. The amount
of dust in straw fibres is generally higher than in refined wood
fibres. The obvious explanation is the additional types of plant
cells in the straw structure—the parenchyma, epidermis, and
vessel cells. The thin cell walls in these types of cell generate
more dust due to the thermo-mechanical work during the
defibration process.
