In order to understand the behavior of the organization under the pressure of change, systems thinking
is best applied at three levels:
• The organization as a whole;
• The groups that make up the organization, i.e. each group as a whole: and the individual as a whole.
• We approach organizational behavior by focusing primarily on group behavior and the ‘group as a whole’.
• In our attempt to uncover the group dynamics in the system we look at the patterns of behaviors exhibited by the group as well as the existing and changing relationships within the group.
• Not only are people’s behaviors overt and covert, conscious and unconscious; the motivations that underlie the behaviors require interpretation.
