Conclusion
The potential of A. terreus for the secretion of enzymes of the cellulase complex in solid state fermentation was demonstrated. Response surface methodology was an appropriate method to optimize the fermentation parameters to obtain maximum filter paper activity. The experimental and predicted values were very close which reflected the accuracy and applicability of RSM. The crude cellulase produced was found suitable for hydrolysis of alkali-treated rice straw with 74.19% efficiency and the sugars released can be further utilized for the production of ethanol.
