INTEGRATED OWNERSHIP OF SAFETY SYSTEMS (IOSS)
IOSS is the best practice for strengthening the Leadership dimension of safety culture. It is a way of managing EHS&S responsibilities that involves all departments and employees. It puts ownership of EHS&S aspects where the risks are. EHS&S professionals still take a proactive role—coaching, advising and providing internal control—but the owners of the risk (for example, the people responsible for the machines in packaging) are accountable for the risks (machine safety) in their area (packaging). At the same time as they own the risk, they are also now empowered to manage the risk with flexibilty to match the specific technical and operational needs of their area and within the boundaries of regulatory and J&J EHS&S requirements.
