has high accumulation of heavy metals in the surface sediment
(Qiu and Wang, 1997; Ke et al., 2007; Yu et al., 2010), which was
supported by our results that the Cu, Zn, Pb and Cr contents of
the two Sargassum spp. (especially the S. henslowianum) cultured
in the fish farm were higher than those in the control site. Meanwhile,
S. henslowianum can also be used as an ideal biofilter for metal-bearing
effluents because of its high capacity of accumulating
heavy metals from the surrounding environment
