Noah and the Flood
As mankind multiplied on the earth so did his wickedness. It finally came to the point that God regretted having created men and so He decided to destroy the entire human race. But there was one man named Noah who was still true to God along with his family of three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth and their wives. Therefore God planned to spare Noah’s family. God told Noah to build a large boat, or ark, and together in it a pair of every kind of animal, bird, and reptile.
As Noah went about God’s orders, his neighbors made great fun of him for building a boat on dry land. When Noah’s work was finished, he took his family into the ark and God caused it to begin to rain. And it rained and rained for forty days and forty nights until the whole world was flooded. Thus, god cleaned the world of wickedness.
After a time, Noah released a dove from the ark. The dove returned carrying an olive leaf, which indicated to Noah that the flood was finally receding. Eventually the ark came to rest on Mount Ararat and when it was dry enough, Noah released all the creatures in the ark. Noah and his family came out also and built an altar to God. God then promised that he would never again destroy the world with a flood and as a sign of this promise placed the rainbow in the sky.
