Another secondary attraction is the Ho Chi Minh Trail, which crosses part of this area. The Trail was a series of secret supply lines from North to South Vietnam passing through Laos, which allowed the transportation of equipment and goods to the Communists in the south, and was a symbol of their determination to defeat the enemy. Notable features along the route include a Buddhist monastery with a fence made of cluster bomb casings and the wreck- age of a downed American helicopter. These secondary locations do not fit easily into the node and route model because of their small scale, relative inaccessibility and comparatively low visitor numbers. They do have an important contribution to make and complement other primary nodes, although this may be limited if they are excluded from clearly defined clusters.
