Delineation may lack conspicuity because of poor weather conditions (such as rain or darkness), or wear and tear on signing and linemarkings. With reduced visual cues to drivers, drivers may misread messages. This may lead to more frequent errors, such as drivers drifting from their lane, resulting in head-on and ROR collisions. Similarly, redundant line marking that was not adequately removed may provide conflicting messages resulting in driver error (Austroads 2012).
