However, ratio traits are not ideal for several reasons
(Gunsett, 1984). Residual feed intake does not suffer from
these undesirable properties and could be considered in
the breeding program instead of FCR. Heritability and
genetic correlations with other breeding goal traits are
required before a new trait can be included in the breeding
program. Different feeding behaviors in each breed may
also influence RFI. Therefore, the aims of this study were
to 1) investigate 2 different RFI measures and 2) estimate
heritability and genetic and phenotypic correlations
among feed efficiency, growth, body composition, and
feeding behavior traits in different Danish pig breeds.
