For many social scientists the concept of globalization suffers from a myriad of definitions, is fraught with emotional if not ideological connotations and is so general and all-encompassing that it lacks utility as an analytical concept. From our perspective, however, it is important as useful shorthand for a number of interrelated and important development in the modern world. Therefore, in this book the term globalization refers to the continual increase in worldwide economic, social, and cultural interactions that transcend the boundaries of states and which have significant political implications. these interaction are aided by advances in technologies.
The definition does not presume globalization has a uniform impact on any one particular society, group, or class. Nor does it assume its political impact is necessarily a force for peace or conflict
