There were also some grading discretions that counted some students wrong for one answer and other students right for the same answer, so all tests were re-graded upon submission to the researcher. During the first session, after looking over the pretests two hours before testing, the teacher aiding the project decided that the questions (all word problems as TAKS questions typically are) were too difficult for the students. She formed a new test that was simply computations without answer selections. This did not comply with the format agreed to earlier, so the computational results were not used and the original tests were given the next day. This cost a day of instruction as well.
