The major difference that I see in this particular scene, is the shadowing and placement of the actors. You cannot see their faces and they are standing facing each other as if they are opponents rather than husband and wife. If you look through the door window, you can tell that it is night time. Night time can add to the intensity of the situation because the lighting is little to none.
Both of the natural lighting techniques and low lighting techniques were a huge contribution to the film due to it’s very dark and twisted theme. If you’ve read the novel, you would only imagine what Nick and Amy’s life looked like and it was clearly not sunshine and rainbows. Even when the snarky defense lawyer made his entrance into the film, the lighting was only a tad bit brighter. The benefits were getting the audience to really become wrapped into the events leading up to Amy’s disappearance and the hopes of finding her.
I really recommend the novel and the film of Gone Girl. I hope you all take time to see it.
