EPIC is a comprehensive model capable of simultaneously simulating soil and plant processes in response to climate. EPIC is able to simulate processes such as weather, soil erosion, hydrological and nutrient cycling, tillage, crop management, crop growth potential and crop yield. Crop growth is calculated on a daily basis with the required weather inputs, precipitation, maximum and minimum temperature, solar radiation,wind speed and crop parameters such as morphology, phenology, physiology etc. It predicts effects of management decisions on soil, water, nutrient and pesticide movements, and their combined impact on soil loss, water quality, and crop yields for areas with homogeneous soils and management. It uses a general plant growth model with crop specific parameters to simulate the growth of rice, wheat, maize, grain, sorghum, soybean, and so on.
