Fine. Come.”
It was the same thing every night. Yoongi would work until it was nearly sunrise and then slip into the dorms when he finally couldn’t keep his eyes open anymore. Somehow, some way Taehyung would always know when he came home. The younger boy would ask to sleep with him and Yoongi would be too tired to argue about it.
At least, that’s what he told himself.
Taehyung must have checked his phone because when he climbed up and settled next to Yoongi he said, “Hyung you’re only going to get two hours of sleep.”
“I know,” the exhausted rapper mumbled. A huge yawn nearly cracked his jaw.
Taehyung frowned. “You’re crazy.”
“Says the craziest one of all.” Yoongi ignored the hard poke to his rib.
“I stay up late but even I know when to go to bed.”
“Good for you.”
Their whispers died down and it was quiet for a moment. Yoongi thought the brat had finally fell back to sleep but then a leg was thrown over his own and an arm s around his waist.
“Goodnight, Hyung,” a warm voice whispered against his ear.
Yoongi closed his eyes tight and ignored the hard thumping in his chest.
“It’s morning, stupid.”
-*-
That’s how it went every night. Yoongi would groan and complain but he secretly looked forward to the way Taehyung snuggled against him, how his breath tickled his neck and the sound of his voice first thing in the morning.
It became so normal to have the hyperactive brunette in bed with him that when Taehyung didn’t ask to come up one night, Yoongi got curious.
He peered over the side of his bed and squinted in the dark, trying to see if the alien was indeed sleeping in his own bed tonight. He was surprised to find the bed empty, so his eyes continued their search until they fell on an extra lump in Jungkook’s sheets.
Yoongi knew the meaning of jealousy but he didn’t think he’d ever apply it to Taehyung and Jungkook.
-*-
They were all in the dressing room getting ready for a live performance when Yoongi finally decided to approach Taehyung. Everyone was in their own little worlds getting last minute touch ups, so he had some privacy as he sat next to his 4D dongsaeng.
Taehyung looked up from whatever he was watching on his phone, and stared curiously at Yoongi.
“Why did you sleep with Jungkook last night?” the pale rapper asked bluntly.
“Because he asked me to,” the alien answered back, just as bluntly. “I think he’s homesick.”
Yoongi nodded understandably, he sometimes forgot their maknae was still a kid. They say it gets easier but in his opinion it gets harder, the longer you stay away from your family.
“You look really tired, Hyung,” Taehyung pointed out, examining the dark circles beneath Yoongi’s eyes. “Are you sure you can-“
“I’m fine.”
“But-“
“I just didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, ok? It’s no different from every day.”
Taehyung bit his bottom lip.
“Ok everyone! Time to head towards the stage!” their manager announced.
“Wah! I didn’t get to finish my video! Thanks a lot Yoongi Hyung!” Taehyung pouted and stomped his feet childishly before throwing the device into his bag.
“What were you watching anyway?” Yoongi asked while following the boy out of the room.
“Baby twins talking to each other! It was so cute, Hyung! It’s like they had their very own language!”
Yoongi didn’t even know why he asked.
-*-
“Hyung, can I come up?”
Yoongi wanted to say no. He wanted to end this bad habit because he already got a taste of what it was like without Taehyung for one night, and it was hell. He couldn’t sleep. All he did was toss and turn and try not look over at the tangle of limbs in Jungkook’s bed.
He really, really wanted to say no because he needed to remember how to sleep without Taehyung, but eventually his resolve weakened.
“I guess,” he finally answered.
The bed swayed as Taehyung climbed up and crawled in. Immedietly, he dove under the covers and placed a leg over Yoongi. The satisfied rapper sighed into Taehyung’s hold as an arm came around his waist and pulled him into a warm chest. Now all he was missing was…
There it was.
Little puffs of Taehyung’s breath tickling his neck.
“Tae?” he whispered after a few minutes, wondering if the younger boy was still awake.
“Yes, Hyung?” answered a sleepy voice.
Yoongi shimmied further into their warm cocoon. “How do you always know when I’m back?”
Taehyung giggled into his ear. “I smell you.”
“Ha. Ha.”
The giggling boy stifled a laugh and Yoongi tried his best to suppress a smile.
“You’re really weird, you know that?”
He could feel Taehyung shrug. “I’ve been called worse.”
Yoongi turned on his side so they were facing each other. A timid hand reached forward in the dark and wrapped around Taehyung’s waist as well. Yoongi had always just laid there and let the younger boy do all the cuddling, but for some reason he felt the strange need to show his gratitude.
“I would say good night but it’s four o’ clock in the morning,” Yoongi whispered.
“So then say good morning.”
In this new position Yoongi could feel Taehyung’s breath on his mouth instead of his neck and it suddenly made his stomach sink and heart shake.
He wanted to move closer, so he did. Now their foreheads were touching. It was a cowardly and lame move, but it was honestly the only thing his heart could handle at the moment.
“Good morning, Tae.”
Yoongi got a soft snore as a reply. He laughed quietly to himself before finally closing his eyes and willing his brain to slow down. It seemed to always want to keep composing even after he left the computer and went to bed.
But at least there was one thing that helped him fall asleep every night.
And it was tangled up in his arms, happily snoring away.
