North Korean soldier defects to the South
SEOUL: South Korea's military said yesterday a North Korean soldier had crossed the border between the rivals to defect.
South Korea's Joint Chief of staff said military officials were investigating the North Korean soldier, who defected across the central-east portion of the military demarcation line, which is inside the 4km-wide Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that separates the countries.
Citing a defence ministry official a Yonhap report said at around 10am the soldier crossed the border and was being questioned about his motives. He had not been carrying any weapons and no fire was exchanged over the border during his closing.
