In mild cases, reduction of activity, leg
elevation, leg compression, and the use of acetaminophen
or non-steriodal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDS) and antihistamines are effective.
In patients with extensive, tender, or painful
cutaneous lesions; or significant arthralgias
or arthritis may require systemic medications
such as colchicines, dapsone, pentoxifylline or
systemic corticosteroids.3,18
