This section explains in greater detail the functions that can be performed with computer audit software, using as an example an audit carried out by Jason Scott at Northwest Builders Supply (NBS), a large retailer or lumber and building materials located in Tacoma, Washington, and a subsidiary company of Northwest industries. Jason was assigned to audit accounts receivable information produced by NBS’s computerized customer accounting system. This system maintains an accounts relievable master file and transection detail files for sales on account, cash collections, and credit memos. Copies of record layouts for these files were obtained by Jason and are reproduced in fig. 15.6
