Our data set is provided by Kantar WorldPanel.7 It reports aggregate monthly home consumption
of fresh fish in a sample of French households. The time series data cover the period January
2007 to September 2012 (69 points). The category fresh products includes products sold by large
retailers, supermarkets, fishmongers, markets and grocery stores. The analysis does not include
other product forms (i.e. transformed products, frozen or canned fish consumption) since Kantar
WorldPanel data do not distinguish between farmed and wild for these product types.
Our empirical analysis focuses on sea bass and sea bream fish species8, for which we have information
on fish-specific quantities consumed (in kg), fish-specific prices (euros/kg), production mode
(farmed/wild) and form (whole/cut).
